Angie talks DIY on Good Morning America

With the help of the Internet, TV advice shows, and some basic tools, you may wonder if you need a professional at all.

Tips from Angie's List

3 tips to decide if you can DIY

  1. Just because you’re not afraid to take on a project – doesn’t mean you should. Be realistic about your skills. Not having the expertise could lead to additional costs and work. Also, you might find it difficult to find a contractor who will fix your snafu.
  2. Many home improvement projects take weeks, not days. Weigh the inconvenience against the cost of hiring a pro.
  3. Consider what tools you’ll need for the project. If you have to go out and buy a power saw, but don’t plan to use it again in the future, it probably won’t be a very good investment.

Contractor Reviews on Angie's List

“He installed a 2' decorative top cap on a 6' fence. He also works on carpentry, tile, kitchen and bath projects. He even returned some left over materials and put the money back on my credit card. His work was very impressive; the most professional contractor we have hired…” Sean A.

“…leveled the yard and laid new sod. Installed a drain tile system and retaining wall along side of driveway. Very easy to work with and set up a schedule. Cleaned up area everyday!” Patrick T.

“Stripped two exterior doors and architectural surrounds, repaired wood where needed, primed and painted. How did it go overall? PERFECTLY. This was an enormous job; probably 70 years of paint on doors that were in terrible shape. The work was meticulous and the painters were knowledgeable, friendly and dead-on…” Rosie S.
